History Of NPA

The steering of the Lagos state chapter of the association came to being in March 2018. The steering committee comprised the coordinator in person of Dr T.D.O. Adewuyi (National Welfare Officer) a seasoned lecturer with the department of psychology, Lagos State University, Ojoo; Ms Oluronke Oginni (Secretary) a clinical psychologist with the department of psychology, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba; Dr Sylvester Atiri, a lecturer at the department of Psychology, University of Lagos, Akoka and Mr Olabimitan B.A., a lecturer at the department of Psychology, Lagos State University, Ojoo. These persons were nominated by the major institutions where psychology is taught and practiced in Lagos. Following this nomination, the steering committee began the execution of plans to ensure the mandate of the national body for the state chapter came to fruition. The first election for the state executives took place on the 26th of June 2018. However, the inauguration of the executives could not hold because the selected executive members were not evenly represented among the major state institutions and private centres with majority being from FederalNeuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba (FNPHY). Thereafter three executive members were selected to represent FNPHY while the other positions were vacated.
